Miracles?

We've faced some challenges in my family recently: about a month ago, someone ran into the side of our car that was parked on the street. The corner is really icy, and they must have slid right into it, but they didn't stop, leave a note, or anything. Also, our sewage pipes haven't been working well for a long time; my dad says it's because they were installed in an idiotic fashion. But the main pipe that everything connects to has been leaking in our basement. Fortunately, it's unfinished, and we have newspapers down to soak up most of it (it's slow, but a problem).

So, we've been getting quotes on both dilemmas. Through our insurance provider, Progressive, the car bids have been $1,600-$1,500. The pipe bids have been around $2,800! Well, an auto friend of my dad's (he owns "La Voiture) looked at the door and gave us a bid for $350. Wow. Also, Schoonover Plumbing gave us a quote for the pipes for $360. Also wow.

Also, Progressive looked at the quotes they gave us and decided they were so high, they'll give us $1,000 unconditionally. And if we use the lower bids (which we will), that $1,000 will cover all repairs.

So I feel pretty blessed.
