How To Build Yourself a Cool Door Knocker

So I sufficiently wasted an hour tonight. But I made a really cool "door knocker" for our front door! I had gotten this lion mask for a party, but transformed it with coats of paint into an oil-rubbed brass knocker. The ring is the lip of a styrofoam bowl.

The paint layers are thus: a solid, dark brown over the entire thing, and I rubbed it off while it was still wet for some highlights; then a yellowy-taupe dry brushing with brighter yellows for bright highlights; then I spattered a watery mint green over the whole thing with a toothbrush for "age;" I finished it with finer yellow/orange highlights on the right and the same green on the left. It helps to rub the paint over with your finger while it's still wet. It looks more natural?

I just hope no one tries to knock with the styrofoam ring. They'll rip it right off...
